Matthew 8:18-34
Total commitment
Beautiful Sunday morning fellas!
Today I read the following scriptures:
“When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.” Matthew 8:18-22 NIV
In these verses, we are shown that following Jesus will require a total commitment on our part. When we choose to follow Jesus as our shepherd we give up security and being comfortable. But what should give us comfort is knowing that He will supply all of our needs. For nothing can stand against our God and with Him we have everything.
It’s hard to imagine that Jesus would instruct us to miss the burial of a loved one, but that’s why we cannot rely on our own understanding. If we do we will miss the message our Lord wants us to receive. We must obey His instructions for our life even when they go against what we think is right, or in this example even over family obligations.
Being a disciple of Jesus demands immediate and complete dedication to Him. It will require sacrificing worldly comforts. Jesus is looking for followers who are willing to make Him their highest priority.
Let’s make Jesus our priority for the rest of our lives.
Have a blessed day boyz, I encourage all of you to attend church today!
